A tour of Western Canada Le 31 Mars 2009 : Le retour au Canada.
After 33h a day and only 3 hours of sleep, the flight from Australia drops us in Vancouver! My aunt and uncle greet us at the airport and to their surprise, we have lots of luggage! Four bags of 23Kg, a surfboard, and two small backpacks. We all go in the car (a Honda Civic ...) where Karo and I share the rear bench
half (super comfy with a half-ass over it) then for dr
ilo incredible luxury a double bed with very accessible toilet at night! Wow! In addition to being warm and sheltered, my aunt Marie-France and Gordon lend us their car and when we are at the home, meals are already prepared! TRIPLE WOW! Can I tell you we had a great time at home! We ate the pie, the stew meatballs, scalloped potatoes and lots of food better than each other ... We spent Easter with 15 family members. It was difficult leaving Vancouver after the royal treatment we received!
Our plan in Western Canada? Apart from seeing my mother's family, we wanted to make a grand tour of
Western Canada before returning to Quebec. Karo has seen virtually everything Australia had to first know his own country! No!? At
Vancouver was also able to visit two friends: Mathieu Gosselin and Marie-Helene. One of my bestfriend EEEEEmmanuel came to spend some time to party. He came to town for a show of Armin Van Buuren and his buddies I was with this show of music Trans. Apparently that Armin is the second best of its kind in the world of music and can I tell you it was a disgusting show top! Before the show, I had never heard anything from him and so finally, when the lights came up at 2:30 AM (30 minutes after closing), we had not had enough! It was just great to be with a good friend with good music in a delirious crowd. Simply brilliant.
After that, it was to spend four days on Vancouver Island where the surf was huge there
announced. We went to Tofino
and have spent two days. The first day of surfing with incredibly huge and ranges
Tofino is the beach break was almost inhuman to go behind the breaking waves, where the waves are beautiful. The water was several degrees celsius and no skin should be exposed. After more than an hour trying to cross the waves to get back, I finally found a way to get there (I avoid the details), shoulders completely smashed. That's when I fully realized I was completely overwhelmed by the size of the waves and it was not for nothing that there were few people in the water. It was TOO
wholesale and finally, I just wanted to return safely to the water's edge. Probably the biggest kind of beach break waves I've seen in my life ...
The second day was completely different as shown in the photo of Long Beach, with its stranded logs showing the time not far away from logging and transport it to the sea
We also visited a beautiful forest of giant trees and so wet ...
Here are some pictures taken on Vancouver Island

The short time allocated to Vancouver Island brings us to do a brisk walk in the city of
Victoria, capital of British Columbia.
To continue our trip in the same way as in NZ and Australia,
was lucky. Louis-Charles and Rose-Marie, our Quebec friends who live in Calgary
lent us their Westfalia. Too cool. Oops, the day before we arrived in Calgary, the ventilation fan breeze and they send it to the mechanic. Two days later, we will seek it, Rose comes to pay the bill and I'm further and I ask simply: How much it costs ultimately this play there? Worse the mechanic looks at me and he looks at the bill, saying: "Damn it! I forgot to charge it! Because you are so kind, I'll Give You a 10% discount on it!" $ 200 more expensive ... Rose and Louish thought crucify me ...
So Calgary, the plan was to see our friends Justyne, Louis-Charles and Rose, Barbara and Jason, and then see Banff and finally rolling quickly in the Rockies to visit. Here attached to
Banff has continued to climb
hiking
Sulphur Mountain.
Here are some of the beautiful scenery we visited along the way, first by going to Jasper, then back down to Kelowna. Right here,
Castle Mountain.
left, a shift in altitude
to Jasper. On the other hand, Karo before the Athabaska glacier front, which over the years have been declining. Indeed, small signs illustrated the years or the glacier and was for half a century, it fell over one km! And it does not improve ...
But ultimately, our goal was to rejoin Emmanuel
Kelowna (valléee Okanagan) where he was going
play in a bar with his band. Music techno genre that I have trouble to describe but that made us dance into the wee hours of the morning. Jerome (in Montreal), crazy jealous that we celebrate without him, moved to Kelowna and convinced Marielle join us for leaving them little Philippe (who has a year and a half) to the care of grandparents .
is finally all together we have used the time between best friends to go to "whiten teeth" in what would be
our last ski trip of the 2008-2009 season powder (and first for me for over 2 years !!!). At 6 people in the Westfalia Louis-Charles, visited one of our favorite playgrounds:
Rogers Pass . Karo and for me, just to see the snow was fantastic. The
avalanche conditions were all favorable to skiing, but our only concern was: Will we have good skiing? After climbing from 6am, sleeping in shelters of wood and as night sets in, the snow begins to fall. She falls. It falls like that for hours! Guys, it's going to be sickening tomorrow. Girls on their side, and worry less trippent ground unknown and impressive record. The next day, they are taught techniques
analysis of avalanches and skiing off piste. They love it! After dinner, they have had enough and returning heated shelter. What do guys? The''boys, here we go!''Manu Jaerome and me, it was slammed with an ascent of 2:30 and zero visibility made the summit was expected / hoped that the clouds leave. After only 30 minutes all the clouds disappear and the majestic landscape unfolds before our eyes in bright sunlight ... Worthy of the perfect scenario! Like little children, you begin to descend, shouting with joy (and pain
thighs; Vive le telemark ...). A carpet of snow knee-deep powder, worthy of Heli-Skiing Aquis but by our own legs, what a great reward!
Once the mini ski trip over, Karo and I set off again only way to Calgary to southern British Columbia. This time we had set our goal to visit 3 sources
hot, my favorite. The best in my opinion are from non-commercial and not too amménagée. Near Nakusp
St. Leon Hot Spring looks like this little paradise in the forest with his two pools and the lowest at 38-40 degrees Celsius peanut-shaped concrete is designed so that, Once down, your whole body is submerged and the shape of the ground above the pond and grab 43-45Celsius in the rock with a mini concrete wall, allows two people to slip ... Too easy to spend the night then I tell you!?
The second, a commercial source near Nelson Ainsworth
Hot Spring, not to be missed, a source that was discovered at the time of the exploration of the area by miners, digging, expanded the source. Since then, the tunnel remained there and they loved the lights, and two swimming pools at the exit of the tunnel. In addition, for wishing to cutaneous thermal shock (and bravest), a small flow of water from a creek adjacent (Celsius temp = 2) was diverted and filled a basin adjacent to the hot water.
The third source,
Lussier Hot Springs is noncommercial but still busy. A dirt road passing through steep slopes in places Dangerous us there. The water temperature varies depending on the basin chosen but the upper basin is probably 43Celsius and becomes warmer in summer, thus making it a better time to visit the other three seasons of the year. Once again, we can get a bath of cold water from submerging into the adjacent river. For fans of spas, it's still a top 10. Obviously this comes with a faint odor of sulfur and a seabed with small algae but we forget
all this well, so quickly that it overwhelms.
To end our long journey, we went
visited Waterton National Park the boundary between Alberta, British Columbia and the United States. There are market and tried to see some bison pastures (by far) without success. Our visit was cut short by the fact that water bodies were still frozen and the roads were not practical. The best season to visit this park is summer. It lets you still see our best images of this beautiful corner of Canada.
