West Coast - 2nd Edition

WHAT! We are still traveling! Ah well the example. We are starting to get used to the idea of enjoying life like that! I hope that gives you the taste!

Well, we were in Christchurch: the main town of the island in the South. We return temporarily to Wanaka for the weekend was a bit of climbing. What happened since:

Road to the west coast of South Island, we stop again at the spot classic blocks: Castle Hill. The block, it becomes much more fun with the world eat! That's why Karen and John Hughes have easily succeeded in convincing us to return. Karo was thrust into the business it would not Osee fair with me and I found myself scored a V6 ... It is what it's worth but it was a big move ... We had lots of fun and we are working some good problems. The photo-cons: the paparazzi Gab Karo.

The path that leads us to the West Coast did not choice but to make us go through Arthur's Pass (just the Rogers Pass Development). Since we wanted to go rock climbing in Charleston (another beautiful spot of climbing on the West Coast) and Karine and Jean-Hugues only have two months in NZ, we opted for a walk day. The weather was particularly beautiful in fact, which is pretty rare in these mountains. GO! We enjoy. Landscapes are always really nice here . I hope we will not get used! The beautiful glaciers, visiting a Kia (alpine parrot), and legs are tested with an ascent of 1100m. Ca we took a little pressure mounted 3h. Here we are with the installation "Sears" at the top (I realized that I was doing stupid things ... foo)

The climbing spot in Charleston is reserved to protect traditional climbers like me. It was the turn of John Hughes and Karine to be with the good guys because I love trad climb. Unfortunately, it started raining but not just the rain tite, a big damn good as we say in good quebcois! This is where we left JH and Karine who have continued their journey to Paynesford (see our article of January 5, 2008) of course after a couple of good games of cards in Homy. A chance encounter

speak for me the weekend, there was a festival of whitewater kayaking in a village near Charleston, so the choice of next destination was much easier and my nice girlfriend Karo could not stop reminding me. Go for a taste of living water Bullerfest and the village of Murchison!

due to the amount of people present and the different events in c bear, it was easy to find someone to go down. I had the chance to go down two different rivers in the same day to fully enjoy the rental of the equipment. A first river, the Mangles, grade + R2 to R3 (grade 5 + being the maximum imaginable without dying ... in my opinion) was pleasant but without much difficulty. J'avait my personal escort with 4 people aboard Homy ... Karo drivers needed to make the shuttle as it embarks all our friends a chance meeting with Murchison. Better! It makes the time pass more quickly for her! From my side, and some moving water splashed in the face ... Then we ascend to the top of the Glenroy River which is only good when it is outside the flood ... This was the case! A grade 4 + which gives me the thrill and the technical approach of a beautiful river. The crux of the river passed through a passage of 3 falls to 2.5m high with a crossbar between huge boulders. No choice, we go, the error was not pleasant but not too many consequences similar to my story last year ... for those who know. I was pretty "high" after this passage! And again, the Home has Homy which was great ... Thank you for the good Karo patience that can only cross your fingers for me hoping that everything goes well. Sorry, no photos because the water and our cameras are not compatible. I had the camera from a friend, so photos come on ca.

Back in Charleston. Well, it's nice! Go! Go! Go! You climb and you benefits! The spot is beautiful. Located on cliff plunging into the sea is no question of going there when the swell is strong ... The conditions were good for us. It has evidently embarking classics in the first place, hoping to finish before the rain hit us. Karo practice his climbing in cracks, jamming his hands, feet and ... her coronation! What horrors could emerge from the mouth of a cute little girl like her! But why do you climb Karo? Chu able I tell you! No, I do not want to get off! J'comprends not! My hand has not caught me! and so on. With the waves breaking on the boulders foot of the wall, it was difficult to hear. The best way I've done without Karo was given that it was a cross ... (I have a thought here for Vero and the cross of 4 pitch we did in Tuolumne Meadows - Yosemite N. Park) In short, a cross then it follows as much exposure to second in the first climber to look down but too bad to see the waves crashing at the foot of the wall, well, this adds to the ambiance! Here I am a natural protection on the anchor. I love it!

Well, we saw what we wanted, we did all the classics are back on the road! As simple as that our trip! We are starting to cross the road on a range of vehicles resembling rather stunning and my word, inspiring! There was a festival here that modified vehicles are perfectly legal as long as AC is solid and well constructed. An inspection tite worse turn is played. Here's an example of these mobile homes. It was going to Greymouth. The Monteith's beer brewery was nearby and they were tours. Cool! We will see that! With experience in background left by Jean-Pierre and his team, my liver rustic but very functional, you could see the true providing craft beer production in New Zealand. It was really interesting, but everything happened too quickly. Listen and watch while at the same time, I have not managed to assimilate. But everything is big! Ca I saw! And of course, what better than a tasting to understand the process! mmmmm

Finally continuing down the west coast, it was realized with our book guide to hot springs of New Zealand, we would cross in a few! Nooonnn, not enough AC Disgusting! The first is that we stop, on the edge a river, move rocks and create a pool for hot water gushes from the side. She leaves a comfortably warm temperature of 41 Celsius. When he emerged, the river is the perfect place for black flies commonly called here: "sand fly". It's been several months that we are here in NZ, we start well know that the! She went to bed at night! Ohhh, a nocturnal adventure tite ... He! He! With the intimacy of a candle ... GENIAL!

Other hot spring, Welcome Flat. It is located after an approach march from 6am. Well, it equips you pass along the river Copland (pictured left: Copland is the blue river that joins the other more greyish too good ...) despite the threatening clouds and rain and mountains are approached and the famous Mount Cook but of the other side where we saw the 1st time. The glaciers are ... yet. Wow they have not disappeared. This step may be problematic during large rain because the rivers have no bridges, so usually if there is a flood, you can cross. Happened to this little paradise (it was not the flood), still black flies. It has two good slap sceance, a night, the other day. It is really addictive record. It is too genial. The best is that the caretaker (the one that handles the small shelter located 5 minutes from the sources) is the author of the book that has brought us all the hot springs we visited: Sally Jackson! It is really cool, it chatters too bad I did my tourist asking for a picture with her.

And finally, we leave the West Coast for ceuillette apples. Basically, our new job is simple, you take an apple, you're deposited in a small hoop in front you and your shoulders a jumper. Worry more or less picks 80 as the ac worse your basketball is full. You empty into a wooden box CALMLY worse you do that again. After about 30 basketball, your box is full udder AC, AC is worth about NZ $ 35-40. Karo and I was the topper has two 5 boxes in one day. It's not the big cash till now but it's not too unpleasant. It makes meeting pierced ears caches between apples, birds nests fortunately empty since otherwise we would attack, worst of spiders with their beautiful paintings in the face every once in a while. After stripping a tree, so I feel that he removed the weight! It lives in our Homy field of our employer with others who have access to a kiln. Until now, it was done 4 apple pies ... Finally an oven! mmmmmhh. Worse is just the beginning! Cookies, cakes, breads banana ... I can not wait! We get bored with our days starting between 8 and 10 AM and will end around 18h30-19h. Dodo and after it again. The hours of work early because of the fluctuating temperature. If it rains not working. If it is cold, either. So we adapt to climate.

Well, was enough. It continues to give you updates again. J'voudrais just tell you our cell number is 2102622965 with country code is 64. We get enough calls! With you to disturb us while we get hit by another branch.

Your hosts: Gab and Karo
